A Lesson In Drug Abuse

This is the story of me, Kyle Barton. I just recently had a wakeup call on where my life was going. For three years, I've stayed close to my friend Matt Johnson. I will admit that none of the neighborhood parents cared for his attitude or some of the rumors about him.

My parents always told me to stay away from him, that he does drugs and God knows what else. I told them that they were wrong. I told them he wasn't like that. Well, months passed by with no incident, but one day was different.

I walked to Matts house, where I noticed clouds of smoke from behind a tree in his front yard. Quitely I snuck over, to find a joint in his mouth. My jaw hurt that day from when it hit the ground.

Matt simply smiled at me, and offered me a puff. I hesitated, because I knew that passing this up would make me lame, or so I thought. Peer pressure prevailed, and I got high. It was fun at the time, until six months had passed, and Matt got... bored with weed.

He came over to my house one day, and pulled a bag out of his pocket. A white powdery substance was in the clear bag, which resulted in another sore jaw. It was cocaine, all right. Two months later, that wasn't a big deal either.

So, one rainy day I went over to his house to get high. What shocked me was the ambulance in front of his house. Matt had overdosed on cocaine and died in his sleep. I woke up that day, and never touched another drug again.

Unfortunetly, it was too late for my best friend. So now I spread word of his fate due to drugs. I hope you do the same.
