Anorexia

My "best friend", lets call her Mellisa, and i were sitting on the couch downstairs watching MTV when CArmen Electra came out.

Mellisa looked at me and said "dont you wish you could be that thin." I said "yes." She said there is a way. I asked how. Mellisa told me that being anorexic helped.

I said "thats not healthy" and she said "who cares it is soooo much faster". I said "yeah probably."

Then Mellisa told me that she was anorexic and thats how she lost so much weight, about 55 lbs. in like 3 weeks. I asked her if there was any other way and she said no, and that she would help me my first time.

She led me downstairs and told me to eat 2 doughnuts. I went eeww all that fat, but Mellisa persisted. So, I ate them.

Then Mellisa basically dragged me up the stairs to the bathroom, held my head over the toilet and told me to stick my fingers down my throat until I threw up.

She said if I didnt she would quit being my friend because I was fat. So, not wanting to loose my best friend, I threw up, and i felt so guilty but great.

Mellisa left smiling and told me to do the same thing after every snack and/or meal. After dinner I told my mom i was gonna take a bath and I left the water running and threw up.

I refused dessert. After two weeks I felt good and had lost 30 lbs. My mom was starting to worry, but I told her nothing was wrong I just went on a little diet.

A few weeks later I started to develop bruises and get lightheaded a lot. Then, during a game b/t my brother and me out front, we were playing soccer, I fainted right then and there.

My mom took me to the hospital and they told her what was goin on. She asked me who got me started and I told her. Then she made me call Mellisa and tell her I could never see her again.

I got started on a 12 week program at the hospital and I am all better now.

Mellisa's mom called me about 7 weeks in and told me Mellisa had died of heart attack from not getting enough nutrients. I felt horrible for not telling anyone and that guilt will live w/ me forever.

Now 4 years later I talk to kids at school about it and hope it wont happen to any one of them.
