To thine ownself be true

As a sophomore in high school, I have come to see that dating is not a big deal for me. When I go out with a girl, I act like myself. I feel if she doesn't like me for who I am, then we are not meant to be together. High school is a world of its own. When you’re in high school, life is different than it would be when you’re out in the “real world.”

Dating is a big thing in high school, but it should not be considered as big as it is. If you can be successful at becoming friends with a girl, then you have the basis for building a relationship with anyone. You need to develop relationship skills and experience. Besides, you can never have too many friends. If you are looking for love, stop right now. It does not work that way. This is high school, and you still have your whole life ahead of you. Focus on self-improvement and how you look at yourself. You should love yourself. Extend yourself to others, present yourself the best way to those you meet and love will find you.

You should be flirting at every opportunity. Flirting is all about conversation. The way to a girl’s heart is through her ears. You should never be rude, aggressive or threatening, just friendly. All dating relationships should be based upon friendship first. If you were friends before you started dating and things do not work out, it tends to be easier to remain friends after you break up. You should be a pleasure to be with, because you are happy with yourself and your life. Do not worry about what other people say or think. It is sometimes awkward to meet her family and friends, but remember — you should always be yourself. If they do not like you for who you are, then you might not belong with that group of people. When you are with people who are important to her, all you have to do is relax. Let her do all the talking, and try to avoid stupid mistakes.

Sometimes dating can be very hard, but as long as you look at it as a learning experience, there shouldn’t be many broken hearts. High school is no place to toss around the word “love.” You will know when that time comes, and when you do, you will have all the experience you need to keep a steady relationship.
