Rise to the challenge

If you study the right things, high school can prepare you for many of life’s challenges. That’s why it’s so important to choose the right courses when you still have time to decide what you want to do after high school. For many college-bound students, the courses you take in high school will have a great impact on the profession you choose. For instance, most medical professions require a vast knowledge of math and science. This means that, if you’re seeking a degree in this field, you should take math and science courses, such as calculus and chemistry. In the past few years, it seems as though the competition for academic recognition has risen. Competition for academic scholarships will also be much more difficult. That’s why it’s so important to get ahead of the game while you’re still in high school. Colleges look for well-rounded individuals. They seek students who are intelligent, motivated and who are willing to go beyond what is necessary. That is where honors classes come in. Taking honors classes makes a grand statement to colleges when they view your academic record. It shows them that you want to make the best of your education. Another plus to taking honors classes is the extra credit you receive on your report card. It boosts your GPA and your confidence. Remember, colleges look for students who go beyond what is asked of them. So consider taking honors classes—it may make a great difference in your educational success.
