Lasting love?

High school sweethearts must face the hard decision of staying together for a long-distance relationship or calling it quits before heading to college or university. There are many issues that can determine whether a long-distance relationship will last or not. If both partners are willing to make it last, then there’s hope.

Even though long-distance relationships are stereotyped as being cursed by breakups, here are some positive ways to make your love last longer than graduation.

Tip 1: Make sure that you and your partner have agreed to either stay completely together or are allowed to date other people. Don’t assume anything.

Tip 2: For birthdays and anniversaries, send personal gifts or a card to make sure your partner knows you are thinking of them. Take the time to show you care.

Tip 3: Plan specific dates when the two of you will get together, whether at home or school. When you do set a date, follow through with it so that no one is disappointed. Make the best of the time you spend together, because you don’t know when the next opportunity will come.

Tip 4: Again, keep in touch using e-mails, e-greetings, phone calls, voice messages, text messages or chat lines. Set a certain time to call your partner, and switch weekly whose turn it is to pay for the call.

Tip 5: Don’t limit yourself when it comes to meeting other people. If it’s “meant to be” with your present partner, then it will work out for the best even if you do say hi to that cute coed in your English comp class. Don’t shun the world or pass down any great experiences. You’ll regret it.
