Computer Science Training

Computer science programs are concerned with the usage and creation of software programs and hardware equipment. Students also work on learning programming code to create computing applications, including learning the language, designing programs of their own, and evaluating existing programs. Understanding the theory behind computer science is a cornerstone of computer science programs. A grasp of the structure of computing operating systems is essential for a computer science degree student. Computer programming programs cover much of the same material.

Summary

Computer engineering is expected to be one of the fastest growing occupations over the 2007-14 period. A computer science degree provides students with a broad base of knowledge in information science, mathematics, engineering, and physical science. In addition, students are trained to use the most state-of-the-art technology and software available on the market so that upon graduation they are as current as possible on an industry that his always evolving and growing more complicated. Within this real world environment computer programming graduates will be able to thrive.Very good opportunities are expected for college graduates with at least a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering or computer science and with practical work experience.

Courses leading toward a computer science degree are electrical engineering, database systems, information technology, producing computer graphics, operating systems design, multimedia systems, software engineering, and programming languages. Graduates with computer science degrees can solve problems with existing hardware and software, as well as design new programs. Fluency in programming language is stressed in computer science programs.

Earning Potential:
The salary for an entry-level computer engineer is $48,000 per year, while most senior or managerial computer engineers make $81,000 per year.
Work Environment:
Computer engineer work in a comfortable office environment; however, they also spend very long hours in the office meeting important deadlines and fixing computer network and database problems that can occur at any time of day. The upside to this is that with the advent of telecommuting, many computer engineers can work some of their long hours from home. Though the hours are long, the benefits are good and there is generally two weeks paid vacation offered by most companies.
