Medical Transcription Schools

Medical Transcription Schools offer programs for students looking to learn how to minimize for physicians the mundane task of converting audio records into textual reports. Medical Transcription Schools also teach students how to convert the audio records into medical reports, correspondence, and other administrative material. These documents include things such as physical examination reports, operative reports, consultation reports, etc. The physician must review the document and give a signature and if it passes it is stored in the patient's permanent file.

Medical Transcription Summary:
Medical Transcription Schools teach skills that are complex and comprehensive. One must be able to comprehend the jargon that physicians use including abbreviations, medical terminology, etc. There are standard medical reference materials that are offered to help the medical transcriptionist to report an accurate document. There are legal and ethical requirements that the employees must abide to regarding confidentiality with patient's records.

Other tasks of the job include: receiving patients, scheduling appointments, answering the telephone, and handling incoming and outgoing mail.

The typical medical transcriptionist's works a 40 hour week however those that are self-employed are more likely to work irregular hours. Most employees work in rather comfortable settings such as hospitals, physicians' offices, laboratories, etc. The draw back of working in confinement is that the job usually entails sitting in the same position for extended periods of time which can cause problems that affect the back, neck and eyes. The constant repetitive process can also cause stress.
