Summary:

A degree in photography prepares students for careers in graphic design and studio art. Students will become educated in both traditional and state-of-the-art photography techniques. In addition, students are taught to look at photography from a historical perspective and how to develop their own professional quality portfolio so that upon graduation they are fully armed with all they need to begin a flexible and rewarding career.

Salary:
The salary for a photographer ranges from $24,000 per year for photographers working in the media, to $50,000 and up per year for freelance photographers.
Work Environment:
Jobs in the field of photography are available with newspapers, magazines and many other media outlets; however, the majority of professional photographers work for themselves—one of the many perks that lead some people to become photographers. Freelance photography offers a range of opportunities, one of the most popular being wedding photography or running a portrait studio. Hours differ from one photographer to the next, but range around 8 to 10 hours per day, with many freelance photographers having to work during weekends and evenings to cover events.
