A victim of the rural flight occurrence common to a number of Midwestern states, Nebraska looks to continue solid economic growth in agriculture and agricultural science. Scientific farming has become so prevalent, in fact, that much of what used to be prairie is now farms and ranches. The residents of this state are often referred to as cornhuskers because of their state nickname.
Sometimes called the Gateway to the West, Nebraska sees a lot of visitors pass through the state rather than setting-up to call it home. Nevertheless, a number of large colleges exist--as well as large businesses such as the University of Nebraska Medical Center, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and First Data Resources Incorporated. Careers in high demand include systems analysts, survey researchers, architects, and personal financial advisors.
