The state of Nevada has seen tremendous increases in population over the last decade. As more people move to the two major areas of the state, Las Vegas and Reno, this creates an additional need for educated employees in a multitude of areas. While the hotel industry dominates the landscape and includes some of the largest employers, they alone do not drive the employment availability. The largest employer in the state is the Clark County School District, located in Las Vegas. Other large employers include county governments, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, and larger hotel and casinos.
Degrees attained at Nevada colleges in the areas of criminal justice, hotel administration, and management will be helpful in securing gainful employment. Graduates of NV colleges with credentials in nursing and education are especially valuable, as the state has been experiencing a critical shortage in these fields over the last couple of years.
