Surgical Technologist Career Summary: |
| Students pursuing a degree as a surgical technician must take classes in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, ethics, and medical terminology. In addition, they are required to spend time working in a supervised clinical environment where they will gain first hand experience of patient safety and care, sterile techniques, and surgical procedures. A career as a surgical technician is challenging but comes with the added bonus of being able to save the lives of people. |

| The starting salary for surgical technicians is $29,000 per year; however, as technicians gain experience in the field they can make as much as $46,000 per year. |
| Surgical Technologist Work Environment: |
The majority of surgical technicians enjoy the benefit of only having to work a regular 40 hour work week; however, some may be required to be on-call some nights and weekends, depending on their work arrangement. Surgical technicians work in highly sterile, well lit medical environments and must be able to stand for long periods of time and remain alert while in surgery. It is not a career for those with week stomachs. Oftentimes, surgical technicians must endure foul odors and sights.
