Future Plans Disrupted

Ahh yes...Senior year! I've almost reached the pinnacle of my high school career. I've limited my college choices down to two (Ohio University and Northwestern University) and college applications are filled out and ready to be sent in for processing. I'm feeling good about financial aid and my grades are good. Sounds great, right? Well, the U.S. Government has made a major kink in my plan. WAR!?!

What is our government thinking? I am trying to plan my future here and now I have to worry about being shipped off to Iraq or some other anti-American country. Preemptive war is a huge mistake, but that's not even the worst. The Bush administration has proposed a policy that would not allow college students to be exempt from selective service if the draft is instituted! Give me a break!

I've been planning my future for years. I've worked hard (sometimes) to achieve the things I've attained. I'm proud of everything I've done and I don't want to lose it all via hot steaming lead piercing my flesh.

Don't get me wrong, I am grateful to all those men and women that are protecting my civil liberties, but I have resolved that I am not one to crawl across the desert floor to combat terrorists.

Please don't misinterpret my point here. I am patriotic and support our government. I'm not anti-Bush or completely anti-war. I just think that if I or any other student is trying to better himself or herself, than we should be able to do that without having to worry about war. Hmmm...I wonder what colleges are like in Canada.
