Getting Ready to Leave

As a junior in high school I, like everyone else, am feeling the excitement of senior year as well as the responsibilities and requirements for college. Even though I feel as if I'm prepared for my last year, there are days when I start to feel like I'm not doing enough. I've been on practically every college site there is and I've applied for numerous scholarships, but nothing I do seems to make me feel as though I'm adequately preparing for my final year.

Besides all the college stuff, the agony of leaving my mother is another issue all by itself. I mean don't get me wrong I'm ready to leave and explore college life and own my magazine that I've wanted since forever, but then again there's a part of me that's going to feel sad for leaving her all by herself. I'm the only child she's got, and she's the only mother I've got. I'm just dreading the day that I have to say, 'okay ma, I'm going to be 15 million miles away from you, but hey I'm big girl.

I'm going to my dream school (Howard University) I can handle it' when in reality I may not be able to. But then again that's a vital part of growing up. You have to realize that sometime in your life you've got to leave home and show her that all her skills and discipline has paid off. Until then I think I'll just get ready for my senior year, which means prom (yea) and put the tears off until later.
