Education- One of The Most Important Things a Child can Have

Becoming a teacher has always been a dream of mine. Ever since I was little, I've loved children. For hours, I would force my twin sisters to be my "students," just so we could play school. I would assign homework - coloring in their coloring books- and tell them to bring it back to me when they were done. They loved it.

I babysat for six years and will continue to do so. I've grown to love young children, and can envision myself teaching at an elementary school in the near future. I feel that teaching a child to learn is one of the most important careers available today.

With a solid education, kids are able to succeed and accomplish their goals. Learning can increase a child's growing mind and can be extremely gratifying. I would love to be a part of that.

A great sense of accomplishment is obtained after seeing someone you taught become successful. In no other job can you do something so great, as to educate a young child's mind, and make them want to grow up and learn everything there is to learn in the world.

Growing up, I'd say my grade school teachers had the biggest impact on influencing my decision to become a teacher. In particular, one teacher, Ms. Krezter, stood out from the others in unusual ways. Second grade. We'd just started the year and Halloween was approaching. Instead of having the usual trick-or-treat parties every other class was having, we had a pumpkin carving contest and roasted and counted the seeds for part of our math lesson that day. She always knew of someway to incorporate learning with fun activities. We made fish t-shirts out of dead fish. We went for a ride on a tour boat on the Erie Canal.

She would constantly be reading books to the class. My love of books definitely came from her. At the end of the year, she even gave everyone in the class memory books.

My mother was a big influence in my education as well. She would come every single Friday and volunteer, throughout my elementary school years. I'd look forward to every single Friday because I knew my mother was coming.

I feel education is definitely one of the most satisfying professions. Working with children since 6th grade, I believe has helped me to prepare for this field of study. Teaching is difficult, no doubt about it. Rigorous amounts of schoolwork and studying will be needed to achieve the dream I've always wanted. I feel Oswego is ready and so am I.
