Racial Harmony
All men are created equal. The creator has given us certain inviolable rights, -- the right to life, the right to be free, the right to achieve happiness. The words of Thomas Jefferson ( the 3rd president of United States (1801-1809)) were chosen to be echoed in Declaration of Independence of my country, Vietnam.
Racial harmony means people of different race groups living together peacefully and tolerating one another. It is very important and necessary. Nowadays, in an interdependent world, we really need racial harmony! Will we suffer if we do not have racial harmony? Taking some examples, Hitler with Germany and minister of war Tojo with Japan. They were treated as second class, then avenged, led the second World War and treated others as inferior. After all, it was their turn to be defeated.
Adopted from Bill Clinton's speech when he came to Vietnam in year 2000: Almost 200 years ago, at the beginning of the relations between the United States and Vietnam, our two nations made many attempts to negotiate a treaty...These efforts failed, no treaty was concluded because two distant cultures were talking past each other, and the importance of each to the other was insufficient to overcome these barriers. Countries can also be ruined when people of different races are hostile towards each other.
Racial conflict is one of the main reasons behind the failure of many developing countries to develop and prosper. All like that because of disharmony and misunderstanding amongst another. On the other hand, we get benefits of living in racial harmony. We exchange the differences of the cultures, custom and tolerate one another for one another. Singapore is the most typical example. Many foreigners live in Singapore, many races, speak in many languages. All live in racial harmony. Singapore gets benefits from racial harmony; people can exchange the culture and understand more about the others. They can have and try more kinds of food, clothes, etc. In a peaceful country, people can have freedom of movement, can live together in love and wealth.
Racial harmony itself makes many other benefits: manufacturing prospers, tourism thrives, international respect, rich culture...etc. We understand the need for racial harmony, but how to solve the disharmony? The racial conflict? Racism? How to get racial harmony? The answer is compromise and accommodation; the majority group respects the differences of the minority groups, peace and harmony are vital to their peaceful co-existence. Power sharing, favoring the minority groups and mutual respect are also important; the minority groups are willing to compromise their rights for the sake of harmony. We need to understand and tolerate one another.
In the earth, we divide ourselves into different continents, different countries and different races. Racial harmony, only do two words stir up a thousand emotions within me. Let us be regardless of race. Let the day of racism, of the racial conflicts be gone for good. Let us acknowledge our importance to one another. Let us continue to help one another heal the wound of wars, not by forgetting the consequences of conflicts, but by embracing the spirit of the reconciliation and the courage to build better tomorrows for our nations and the whole world!
