Help Parents Help You
For me life today can be very difficult. There are so many pressures that come with the territory, of being a young person in the type of world we live in. Nearly every teenager today can relate to me when I say the heat is on. The pressure is rising. There is an unlimited amount of stress put on us today to "do what’s right" to "do our best" to basically do what is hard at times for even most adults.
Personally I can remember when my parents expected me to make choices that they themselves didn’t know all the answers to. They put down rules, and were not even sure, themselves. So I say as long as I do what I feel is right to me and as long as my choices support my life goals, do not hurt anyone, and handle rules I can basically live unstressed knowing that I stayed true to myself. "
I’ve learned a lot in a very short time. Listening to peers when put under the pressure usually adds to the problem. If there’s a possibility that your friends’ advice will cause any damage or that your parents will be against it then you’re probably better off making your own decision.
Teens may not fully think so, and at times neither do I, but parents and most of the adults placed around you are just trying to help you through your times of confusion and frustration. Adults themselves might not own up to it but they also need our help. No matter how much our parents claim they understand what we’re going though, it often takes a lot of talking on our part and putting themselves in our shoes for some kind of understanding to be resolved. They do need us to break down the situation and allow them to see our picture along with what they think is best. Article provided by
