Daring To Be Different

Life in the halls of an ever expanding High school is one of the hardest places to ever have to be. No, there is no physical torture in walking through these hallways, but anything that one would do there may stimulate a chain of events that will lead to the swift and direct action of a peer or a superior against you.

This chain of events is stimulated very easily, but even easier if this person is different that what the mass. The halls are never and open battle ground, but there is always a challenge to be different, but yet not to be rejected by all.

There are reasons people want to be different, to be noticed, to be special or just because they want to be their own person. Some of the ways people try to be different varies.

One person could dress differently while the other decides he or she wants to make their speech more poetic. There are as many different ways for a person to be different as there are people.

Why then, do people who think they are the norm, have some sort of resentment against those who are not like them. They are probably jealous of that person for they may want to be different but can't or just because it is a taught reaction like racism.

These people are the results of what could be called selective meeting, that these people do not appreciate others for who they are because they themselves have never really gone out and become acquainted to new people.

Therefore they do not know what to expect of them, and therefore have an unconscious fear of them. The fear and misunderstanding of people that are different from those that are think they are the norm, leads to the reception of a lot of suspicion by other people.

If something were to go wrong then it would be easier to blame the one who is different from the rest, because why face the fact that someone that you familiar with could have done it when you can believe that someone you do not know did the deed.

This is a mirror of what happened at many witch trials, that the individuals who were not accepted by the bulk of the town were blamed for all bad things that went wrong within the town, like poor crop yield or a small epidemic.

These things are not under the control of any one person back then. But just because those people were different they were the ones to take the punishment.

To be different from others is to be oneself. But others may think less of you and never know what to believe you are. From this the different people are blamed for things that they did not do, for the reason that the "normal" people would rather place the blame on someone who is not like them.
