Love

What to do with love: "Love is like Pi - it is natural, irrational, and very important." So what does this mean?

Love is not something that we can fully describe, because it stretches beyond our normal bounds as humans. It is something that exists on so many different levels, and that describing all of its intricacies would be impossible.

However, me being the person that I am, I am not going to give up without a fight. So here it goes. First off, you have the love that people feel for their closest friends.

This falls under the category of "Love your neighbor as your self type thing" which, when you think about it is quite ironic. First because it implies that you are self centered and love yourself above others, and secondly because it is coming from a society that kissed each other instead of shaking hands to greet each other.

So that just throws all the governing behaviors of this type of love out the window.. But really, this isn't a difficult love to understand. It is the type that you are classified under when you put yourself on the line for a friend.

It is when you commit a kind action with the only end of helping them in mind. This is the first level of love, but it is not what the question is asking.

I believe that it is safe to assume that this question is calling for a line to be drawn. A line between this simple "puppy love" and "true love." You know, I never thought that this movie would be useful, but I like that line that the bartender used in Win a Date With Tad Hamilton.

She said that the different types of love can be categorized into the amount of time that they require for you to get over. So here it is, puppy love is that love that you get when you are going out with somebody for several months, and you let each other get very close.

Breaking up from this takes a few months to get over. This is like a friendship type love, but with a twist of Romance involved. You would do anything for the other person, just as you would your friend, but you are also romantically involved with them.

You love each other, even though you probably wouldn't break out the engagement ring just yet.. True Love is the love that you never get over. After true love, you have to find the person that you love second best.

True Love is the essence of our existence on earth. There are two stages of this. The love that we have for God, which (should be) absolute, and therefore I won't talk about it.

The second is the love that we (should) have for our spouse. (hopefully) This is a love that reaches deep into both people. Obviously I have never experienced this, but here is my philosophy. It is something that fills that void that we feel in our lives. (Not the one that God fills)

When God created us, he created the desire within us to be with somebody else. He created Adam and Eve, and thus started a cycle. Just like every other cycle, it is innate.

We are born with this desire within us to be with somebody else, and this feeling of Love is the completion of that desire. It is knowing that you have somebody who cares about you, who will stand behind you no matter what, who will help clean up the broken glass (a metaphor); just as you would do for them.

This physical passion that most associate with love, is only part of the picture. Yes, God did give us this passion to stay together, and to promote procreation. However, to say that the passion is all that love is would be stupid.

Love is that security that you have when you are in a relationship with the person that is "right for you." The person that compliments you and your characteristics. So, should kids our age be looking for love.

Well, I think that you can find the simple puppy love at our age. Many of us have fallen under the euphoria of going out with the "perfect girl or guy." However, this fufilling, completion type love would be insanly hard to obtain at the same time as your driving license.

But hey, Romeo and Juliet found it, so why cant we... then again, they didn't exactly live happily ever after.. Until a later time.
