Failure Is NOT An Option

"Life is no Crystal Stair.” The famous author and poet Langston Hughes could not have said it any better. I, for one, have had a very ironic childhood. My father died at when I was only three years old, I had a child at 15, and my mother has health problems.

If you are thinking that all of the odds are against me, think again. We are all imperfect people. I began to realize that these are merely obstacles, and only I can decide if I will allow the road blocks to hinder me.

The reality is, the more successful people have a rocky beginning. I will be the author of my life story. In order to experience joy I must first experience pain. The answer is to remain optimistic because I realize failure and disease is only a state of mind.

While it is true that life is hard, I did not give up. In fact, I worked harder. At first, I began to feel sorry for myself, but how long could I do that? I came to understand that no one could live my life but me.

I thought about my aunt who came from poverty and a very dysfunctional childhood who is now very wealthy, happy, and secure. If she can do it so can I. I refuse to be persuaded or manipulated. I know where I want to go, and I cannot achieve my goals with a pessimistic attitude.

I am in the top 5% of my graduating class and in several extra-curricular activities. I have a long way to go, but I will not give up! Only I can determine what my future will become.

Excuses are the reasons for failure, and I can never be a failure as long as I try. Due to the many obstacles I have overcome, and my perseverance to succeed, I will not give up on my path of excellence.
