Dreams Can’t Beat the Dawn

So this is what it’s like to dance on a rose.
To swim in the cool dewdrops on each petal, absorbed and carefree
So this is what it’s like to be excited, innocent, oblivious to the world around me, concerned only with the dewdrops on my own petal, no one else’s.
So this is what it’s like to dive into my first love, to splash around and play for hours in the darkness of early morning, to only feel a minute go by.
But this love becomes a race against the sunrise.
With the sun, comes heat that will dry up my cool dewdrops.
When I fall from my once beautiful rose,
All that is left are the thorns, brittle with sharp edges.
And that is all that remains of our love:
Bitter fights and harsh words.
Dreams can’t beat the dawn.
