Home of the Brave?

America, Land of the free and the home of the brave. Brave is what they call the people of this country. Brave is how we are said to live out our days. What is brave? Going to war with third world countries that cannot defend themselves, is that brave? Or how about sending poor orphaned children back into a country, that they will soon die in, is that brave? The crazed pride for our wonderful nation has been blown out of proportion after 9/11.
In the past we have been the big bad bullies of the world. I don't believe what Bin Laden did by all means was right but it peeled another layer back of the fake America we live in. The national pride after 9/11 is outrageous! Throughout the world 9/11 happens on a daily basic. People live in fear but we are blinded by our expensive cars, big homes and fast food restaurants.
When I drive down the road and see a billboard that says, "God bless America!" It reminds me of a movie I saw with a saying close to that, "God bless America and nowhere else!" Why do we feel the need to post it? God blessed the whole world. We just don't share the wealth. Our country gives us the freedoms to speak out against the unjust and corrupt. It gives us the freedoms that many do not have. Our country has the perfect ideals but nothing can be perfect. People abuse and don't appreciate what privileges they do have.
Our forefathers had set up a plan for a nation that seemed to be foolproof. Somehow, the hypocrites and the politics seemed to ruin it. In the end, it seems that our material objects will always breakdown when we need them the most and be hidden in a place were we can never find them. These objects are also the center of our nation. It’s the fuel that keeps us running. These simple inanimate objects are what we owe our corruptions, our successes, and our failures to. Americans are truly shallow if you look at it this way.
In Casablanca, bombings on May 16 2003 killed 31 people in 5 almost simultaneous attacks. Americans too caught up in their own affairs more than likely haven't heard of this situation. The pride of a nation brought about by terror, would also help aide others in the same horror, or so one would think. Frankly, as I see it, no one cares.
Our country is filled with ignorant people worried no more than about the clothes they wear and ways to gain fame fast. When professional athletes get paid more than doctors and other people that actually help someone in need, then one knows for sure our country needs to revaluate its system of values. I have been a true American my whole life, guilty of all the faults of the rest of us. Now, seeing the world in shambles, I know there is more to life then a McDonald's cheeseburger and a brand new Ford Mustang. Our newfound patriotism is sickening. Taking pride in something that undermines the rest of the world is wrong. I will not take pride in the bullying tactics that our country displays. I am proud to have the freedoms I do have, but the witch-hunts are what is wrong with our country. If you look into the eyes of a starving child and still can come home to a four-course meal finishing every last morsel, you have more strength than I.
For I believe that our country, instead of looking for nuclear weapons that are not there, should put money and time into helping the children that are starving, the men and women dying of Aids or maybe even simply not creating more distress for these people. After this happens, then I truly will be proud to be an American!
