Dealing with Diabetes

I was sitting at my desk (in my bedroom) last night and I got thinking about my diabetes. I was thinking about how good it is for the state to pay for my medical equipment; like my syringes, insulin, and stuff.

I was feeling bad for myself because I am a junior in school and was thinking about my life after I graduate- College and living by myself. I was thinking about how much food I would have to live on and how much money I would have to spend for just eating a 1/2 cup of something and eating less Burger King and McDonald's like most college students do. And of course I also would have to worry about the teen parties, which I had planned on going to when I was a kid.

Five minutes later, I found myself writing all of my thoughts down on a piece of paper and giving to my boyfriend. I guess he knew how I felt because his brother is going to Boston College next year and we discussed my diabetes for over an hour to each other.

On that piece of paper I wrote how I had felt about having diabetes and I had explained to him what it was. I felt happy that I could explain something to someone besides my grandparents (with whom I live with) and actually get to teach someone something new.

I smiled because I am sure that someday someone will find a cure for this disease so no little child, infant, teenager or adult will have to deal with this again.
