10 Best Years of My Life

My first day at Magdalena School, I met the neatest person that change my life forever, Clint Benjamin. We were both six and weren't happy to be at school. Over the years, our friendship grew. We did everything together. We roped anything from roosters to steers, wrestled, played sports, and our favorite- chasing girls.

When Clint came over to my house for the first time, I was so excited. We were both in first grade, and I was counting the days until he came. The morning my dad brought him home, I ran to the pickup and gave him a hug, almost knocking him down. I knew Clint loved to rope, so that would be our first activity of the day.

We got a couple of ropes and sat on the fence thinking of what we could rope. Then a rooster ran by us and Clint gave me a mischievous smile. We jumped off the fence chasing the rooster and swinging our ropes. We roped almost all day and never caught the rooster. A couple of times we threw our loop around the rooster, but when we jerked our slack the rooster kept stepping out.

On my eighth birthday, Trowen, Clint, and I tried to jump Broc, and put him in a horse trailer. Well, we got Broc in the horse trailer, but Broc took Clint in with him. Trowen shut the door to the trailer. Broc was mad and he was wrestling with Clint. Clint was losing badly; Trowen and I could not get in, because Broc would run out of the trailer. Clint was in the trailer yelling for help, and the trailer was rocking back and fourth. Finally Trowen and I let Broc go, Clint was happy to be free of Broc.

One summer, Clint and I were at my cousin Kelsie's house. Clint's sister, Laci was also there. Clint and I made a deal that he can try to get a kiss from Kelsi and I would try to get a kiss from Laci. We both used our best pickup lines; in the end we did not get a kiss.

Then Clint died in October 5, 2003, at the age of 15. The Magdalena football team dedicated our huge win over Pinehill to Clint. During the game three rainbows appeared over the mountains. I will miss him always.
