Because You Only Live Once
College. For many kids, this is what is waiting for them after high school. But the road there is not easy. There are standardized tests to take, classes to pass, requirements to meet.
It can be extremely overwhelming, especially for someone like me who has basically no idea where she would like to go for school, much less what she wants to do with the rest of her life. So when all else fails...take some time off and traipse around Europe for awhile.
In any case, that's what my friend and I plan to do. We'll go to a local university or community college to complete our core classes, then we'll spend about two years living and working in various European countries while we figure out the rest of our lives.
This is our plan, anyway. It's funny how things can seem so right to you, but so wrong to everyone else. "It's so hard to get back into school after being away," is one argument we've heard. Hey, after learning three languages and finding work and places to live in unfamiliar countries, going to school in America will be the easy part.
I know we can do this if we set our minds to it. The important thing is not to let other people's negativity stand in our way. Just becuase it doesn't make sense to others, does not mean it's not right for us.
You only live once, after all. Live for yourself, not for what you think other people expect of you.
