A Pair of Glowing Eyes

Emily was a unique person. Her eyes glowed with curiousity. She was so kind, but not boring. She had a wild side, but yet she was timdid...She was also only twelve.

It was a Friday afternoon, and my friend Caitlin was coming over to work on a project. We rode the bus home. When we got home, my mom rushed up to us and said,

"There was an accident and a student was hurt. It was by your house, Caitlin, call to see if your sister is ok."

Caitlin's face grew pale, and I watched the color come back to her face while she was on the phone. Then she stopped pacing and stared at the wall. She hung up the phone and walked up to me, crying. "It's Emily Van Horn," she said shaking. "She was hit by Josh. She was getting off the bus. It was a freak accident. She is alive, and she is ok, though."

Caitlin and I joined hands and prayed silently. We prayed for Emily. We prayed for Josh. We prayed for the families, and we prayed for the witnesses on the bus.

Later that night, we got a call. Emily had died. Her liver had been crushed, but she spent her last minutes with her family.

All Caitlin and I did that night was cry. We had been fighting with some of our friends. We called and apologized.

I went to the viewing and the funeral. Slowly, things went back to normal. I have learned the value of friendship and life. Never again will I take advantage of a pair of glowing eyes or a friendly smile.
