American Duty

My Fellow Americans, We live in a nation founded upon ideals we struggle to maintain each day; the struggle to uphold freedom and liberty- equality and individuality.

The millions of proud United States residents that make this country great reflect the multitudes of unique fabrics of our world- ethnically, socially and economically. I am glad to see such strides to accommodate our friends of all nations. We are merely one country out of many, without our allies and friends we could not stand strong. As no country is perfect, we consistently apply great effort to accept all peoples of the world regardless of their differences. We hope to continue this mission for centuries to come, fueling us for the final result of complete world acceptance. But my fellow Americans, within our own walls lay troubles we must now accept and soon conquer.

I believe with the strongest of convictions that the single greatest threat to our nation within our own borders is poverty. It is undeniable the effects poverty has upon society- we slowly watch cities succumb to the bottomless pit of the socially stigmatized underemployed, undereducated and underfed. The neighborhoods across our nation that are struck with the inability to financially support the lifestyle our forefathers fought to make opportune, remain neglected by the general public.

Our fears of ghettos, guns and drugs all mask our true lack of effort to help appease the strains of poverty in modern American society. As President it would be a supreme failure on my part to recognize the millions of Americans who work throughout the year contributing to communities afflicted with poverty.

I am not requesting a complete upheaval of the American social structure either. I realize a capitalistic culture cannot thrive without the lower portion of the social pyramid, but I ask the American public to take a greater effort in helping those less fortunate. I am asking the great legislative branch of the United States government to work to bring more to communities lacking resources.

I am asking the members of impoverished communities across the nation to stand tall today and acknowledge they are Americans with the power to overcome struggle. I think at this point in our nation's long history we have the ability to grant undeniable resources to members of our community. Each American should have access to general healthcare, daily meals, quality education, and housing. I am befuddled to learn of members of our country who live in conditions of squalor in contrast to areas where excess is a commonplace.

Working to implement programs to address issues within impoverished society is merely the beginning. On the eve of what I hope is pivotal change in our nation, I ask all Americans this evening to recognize they are Americans and nothing can change that. We have a duty to serve our nation in whatever way possible and I believe we can start within our borders combating poverty. My fellow Americans I ask you to consider my words tonight and implement ideas associated with your thoughts.

Good night and God bless America.
