Pharmacy Schools for Pharmacy Technician Certification |
|
|
| Pharmacology programs are concerned with the scientific study of drugs—their origins, their properties, and their use on organisms. Professionals in this field are engaged in the cutting-edge research of pharmaceuticals. Students in pharmacology programs examine the interaction between drugs in a living organism. Conducting clinical trial research is another aspect of this field. Students seeking a pharmacology degree often select a concentration area within the field, such as cardiovascular pharmacology or immunopharmacology. Pushing to the forefront of modern medicine is the goal of pharmacology programs. This subject covers similar ground as pharmacy programs. However, unlike those that earn a pharmacy degree, pharmacology graduates are not prepared to work in pharmacies. |

Summary Career Educational Requirements: |
Courses that lead to a pharmacy degree may include pharmaceutical regulations, clinical trials management, patient health education, pathophysiology, chemical properties of medicine, and biochemistry. Graduates with pharmacy Masters degrees will understand the status of pharmaceuticals within today’s society, along with the science beyond the development and distribution of drugs.
Over the course of studying for a degree in pharmacy, students will study chemistry, both general and organic, as well as physics, biology, and mathematics. However, the program also educates students in the practical areas of running a pharmacy. Topics covered include pharmacy administration, social and administrative sciences, immunizations, CPR, and patient education. A pharmacy degree will not only prepare students for real life pharmacy experience, but will also enable them to be a great resource to health care consultants and hospital support staffs, which will in turn make them highly sought after in the industry.
Career options for graduates with pharmacy degrees included pharmaceutical company representative, industry researcher, educator, pharmacist, pharmaceutical consultant, public policy analyst, and academic researcher.
|
| Pharmacist Earning Potential: |
| The average starting salary for pharmacists is $59,000 per year, but can be as high as $79,000 per year for pharmacists who work in hospitals. |
| Pharmacists Work Environment: |
A pharmacy degree provides students with the opportunity to work in either one of the many chain pharmacies that spread across the nation or within some of the most prestigious hospitals. As a pharmacist, it will be your responsibility to fill prescriptions properly and take the time to explain to patients the possible dangers and side effects of medication. The hours vary depending on where you work, but can range from 8 to 12 hours per day, and you may have to work weekends and holidays if working at a hospital pharmacy.
